About Will

Will Shropshire began bagpiping in 2008 when he joined the Rockville High School Pipe Band (now known as the Maryland Youth Pipe Band) at age 11. He continued to play with the band through middle and high school, and served as pipe major for two years. During this time Will also played with the City of Washington Pipe Band as well as the MacMillan Pipe Band.

Will attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in music composition. Since graduating, Will is based in Durham, North Carolina.

Will has had a successful solo piping career. In his amateur career, Will was the overall winner of the Chicago Scottish Festival in Grade 1 in 2023, as well as the overall winner in Grade 1 at the 2024 Midwest Highland Arts Fund Winter Storm Competition. Will was classified into the professional grade by the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association in the spring of 2024. That year he took notable prizes including winning the Professional B Piobaireachd at the Glengarry Highland Games and winning Professional Piper of the Day at the Virginia Scottish Games. More recently, Will won the 2026 North American Silver Medal Piobaireachd at Winter Storm. Will has also won North Carolina’s Best Bagpiper at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games for the past two years.

In 2021, Will rejoined the Grade 2 MacMillan Pipe Band based in Washington, D.C. Will has served as pipe sergeant of the band since 2025 and he is the band’s primary arranger and harmony writer.
